Your data, plainly

Privacy policy

Short version: we collect only what we need to run Scrupler. We don't sell your data to anyone. You can delete everything whenever you want.

Updated May 19, 2026

What we collect

Only what we need to give you a working account and an honest feed.

  • Account info — email, username, and display name. Country, birth year, and gender are required so we can show anonymised demographic breakdowns in scruple results — but each can be hidden from your public profile at any time. Optional: avatar, bio, city.
  • Your activity — the scruples you post, your votes, comments, likes, and follows.
  • Technical info — IP address and browser info (collected by Vercel, our hosting provider) for security and basic analytics.

How we use it

Your data powers the product — nothing more.

  • To run the basics: let you create scruples, vote, comment, and follow other users.
  • To personalise your feed based on your interests and geography.
  • To show anonymised demographic breakdowns in your scruple's results — never which specific user voted what.
  • To generate Scrupy AI commentary on your scruple (the AI sees only the question, image, and category — never your account info).

Who we share it with

We use a small set of trusted providers to run Scrupler. Each one only sees what's needed to do its job.

  • Supabase (EU region) — our database, authentication, and file storage.
  • Anthropic (Claude API) — when Scrupy AI generates a response, your scruple's question, image, and category are sent to Anthropic. Anthropic does not train models on our API requests.
  • Google OAuth (optional) — if you choose to sign in with Google, they verify your identity and share your email and name with us.
  • Vercel — our hosting provider. Collects anonymous performance telemetry (page requests, errors).
  • We do not sell your data to advertising brokers, and we don't use third-party tracking pixels (no Meta pixel, no Google Analytics).

Cookies

We use the minimum needed to keep the app working.

  • Session cookie — keeps you signed in (managed by Supabase).
  • Locale cookie — remembers your chosen language (Lithuanian or English).
  • No tracking or advertising cookies.

How long we keep it

Your data sticks around as long as your account does — and disappears when you ask.

  • Account data is kept as long as you have an account.
  • Deleted scruples and comments are removed immediately; backups may retain them for up to 30 days before they cycle out.
  • When you delete your account, all your personal data (profile, votes, comments) is removed from our database. Anonymous aggregate statistics (e.g. total votes in a category) may remain.

Your rights

Under GDPR (and as a general principle), you can:

  • Access — all your data is visible in your profile and settings.
  • Correct — edit your profile any time.
  • Delete — email hello@scrupler.com to delete your account (in-app self-serve is coming).
  • Export — request a JSON copy of your data by email.

Age limits

Scrupler is not intended for anyone under 13 (or under 16 in the EU). If we learn that an account belongs to a child below those ages, we'll remove it.

Changes to this policy

We'll announce material changes in the app or by email at least 30 days before they take effect. Smaller fixes will show up with a new "updated" date at the top.
